Dum Dum Girls did something incredibly rare with their last release, the ep He Gets Me High. They built on, and modified, the garage-pop of their debut record, and signaled toward a greater depth of songwriting sophistication barely hinted at on their debut. Plus, it was an amazing accomplishment that they could pull off a cover of The Smiths "There is a Light That Never Goes Out" that didn't make you want to rip your ears off.
On their second full-length, songwriter Dee Dee continues to challenge herself without losing what made Dum Dum Girls so much damn fun in the first place. Maybe the hooks don't grab you right away on this new record, but they're more rewarding when they do.
