Trouble Books are like an anti-depressant – it's hard to listen to them and not have a smile on your face. Gathered Tones is another record of Keith Freund and Linda Lejsovka musings that, as usual, makes the mundane profound. In a Trouble Books record, you find beauty in the power going out, house plants, abandoned spaces...
Trouble Books continue to experiment with ambient sounds, and on Gathered Tones, it's fully integrated into the songwriting. There is also more percussion, and even some 8-bit noises on "Past the New Parking Deck" (mp3 below). The band continues to develop their sound, yet they still unmistakably sound like Trouble Books. One of the most unique, and one of our favorite, bands around.
Trouble Books will celebrate the release of Gathered Tones at Low Life Gallery (down the street from us) on March 13th at 7:30pm.
